ALOR SETAR, The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 95 fake branded helmets in a raid on a premises in Taman Seri Bandar 5 here yesterday. Kedah KDPN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said that the 11 am raid was participated by a representative of the trademark owner (TMO) of the helmet brand along with a law firm representative. "The raid was conducted following complaints received and intelligence carried out since February. Our investigations found that a pair of lovers, in their 30s, are suspected of selling the helmets online via TikTok and Facebook. "Upon inspecting the premises, we found 95 helmets, 133 helmet covers and other items confirmed to be fake by the TMO representative,' he said in a statement today, adding that the total value of the items seized was estimated at RM16,248. "The pair of lovers were released after their statement was recorded. The case is investigated under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019 for possessing items bearing falsely applied t rademarks for the purpose of trade or manufacture. "If convicted, they can be fined not exceeding RM10,000 or a maximum imprisonment of three years for each item, or both,' he said. Meanwhile, Muhammad Nizam warned traders not to sell or offer any items bearing falsely applied trademarks and advised users to purchase original goods. "We hope the public will channel information regarding suspicious activities to the KPDN through the toll-free line at 1800-886-800 or the e-complaint portal 2.0 at http://e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my,' he said.
