Northern Samar: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has partnered with the Provincial Government of Northern Samar (PGNS) to empower local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region. In a news release on Tuesday, the FDA said it signed a memorandum of agreement with the PGNS for the Bigyang-Halaga, Bangon MSMEs Program on March 7.

According to Philippines News Agency, this collaboration is part of FDA's commitment to strengthening food safety standards and regulatory compliance among local businesses. It aims to expand market opportunities for local entrepreneurs by streamlining processes for obtaining authorizations, such as License to Operate and Certificate of Product Registration.

Moreover, it will provide technical assistance, capacity-building initiatives, and regulatory support to ensure that Northern Samar's MSMEs adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and other essential safety protocols. 'Our goal is to empower MSMEs not only in this province but across the country by enhancing their access to regulatory services. Through collaborations with local government units (LGUs), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and state universities, we will facilitate laboratory testing, capacity-building programs, and a more efficient regulatory compliance system," FDA Director General Samuel Zacate said.

Northern Samar province is home to 4,458 MSMEs, contributing 21.6 percent to its gross domestic product. The FDA reaffirmed its mission to uplift MSMEs, foster economic resilience, and build a more competitive business landscape through its collaboration with the PGNS.

The agency also ensures that Filipino products meet the highest standards, paving the way for sustainable growth and broadening opportunities for local businesses. Other key officials who attended the MOA signing at the Sumuroy Hall, Provincial Capitol include Governor Edwin Ongchuan, Vice Governor Clarence Dato, Congressman Harris Ongchuan, Board Member Christian Emmanuel Uy, department head Jhon Allen Berbon, and FDA officer-in-charge (OIC)-Deputy Director General Jesusa Joyce Cirunay and Visayas Cluster OIC-Director Rica Reina Aumentado.
