Mandaluyong city: Filipino creativity and craftsmanship took center stage once again at the opening of the 9th National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF) at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City on Friday. The NACF gathered more than 300 exhibitors to showcase handwoven textiles, intricate beadwork, embroidered fabrics, and other locally made products that celebrate the nation's rich cultural heritage and sustainable livelihoods.

According to Philippines News Agency, the fair was launched in 2016 through Senator Loren Legarda's initiative in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Design Center of the Philippines, and National Commission for Culture and the Arts. The annual fair continues to serve as a vital platform for micro, small, and medium enterprises, artisans, and indigenous communities to promote their craft and connect with wider markets.

DTI Secretary Maria Cristina Roque emphasized the significance of the event by stating, 'This fair is more than just an exhibition. It is a celebration of our people's creativity.' The fair featured fourteen booths dedicated to Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (National Living Treasures) awardees and Schools of Living Traditions. These booths showcased live demonstrations by cultural masters who preserve time-honored weaving, carving, and embroidery techniques.

Senator Loren Legarda highlighted the fair as a reminder of Filipino resilience and optimism. 'When we read all the negativity and all the bad news, here in this National Arts and Crafts Fair today, it is all good news,' she said. 'You feel the energy, the soul of the Filipino, and you will see how wealthy the Filipino nation truly is.'
