Filipinos Face Deportation from US Amid Trump Administration’s Crackdown

Washington: Some Filipinos in the United States are now facing deportation as the Trump administration launches a significant campaign against illegal aliens across the country.

According to Philippines News Agency, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez confirmed that an undisclosed number of newly arrived Filipinos in the US have been notified of their impending deportation. These individuals would be among the first deportees under the second Trump administration, which has pledged to initiate widespread arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants.

Romualdez indicated that specific details regarding the number of deportees, their current status, or the exact date of deportation remain unknown. However, it is noted that most of those affected are residing in California, New York, and New Jersey. He advised those without a legal path to consider voluntary departure while urging those with potential legal avenues to seek assistance from immigration lawyers to ensure their rights are upheld.

The US Department of Homeland Security recently announced a nationwide advertising campaign urging illegal aliens to leave the US voluntarily or face deportation, potentially with a permanent ban on re-entry. In response, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed relevant agencies to extend support to the affected individuals.

Earlier, Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo Jose De Vega stated that the government might utilize the department's Assistance to Nationals fund and the Department of Migrant Workers' Aksyon Fund. These resources are designated for providing legal, medical, financial, and other forms of assistance to overseas Filipino workers in need.
