Ottawa: Two Philippine embassies have issued warnings to Filipinos abroad to remain vigilant against fraudulent emails from users impersonating diplomats and government officials.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Embassy in Ottawa released an advisory emphasizing that all Philippine foreign service posts in Canada refrain from sending legal documents via email. The advisory urged the public to be wary of individuals using fake email accounts to pose as personnel from the Philippine Embassy or the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs for fraudulent activities, including the service of legal processes.
The advisory clarified that legal processes involving Filipino citizens overseas are delivered through personal service or registered mail concerning cases pending in Philippine courts.
A similar warning was also issued by the Philippine Embassy in Washington, DC following reports of messages and accounts falsely claiming to represent Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez. The embassy highlighted that neither the embassy nor the ambassador solicits money, personal or financial information, or engages in private communications through unofficial or personal channels.
The embassy reiterated that all legitimate engagements are exclusively managed by Embassy offices through official addresses and communication channels.
