Parañaque City:First Gen Corporation President and COO Francis Giles Puno emphasized the importance of stakeholder coordination in the renewable energy transition during his speech at the 4th Philippine Renewable Energy Conference held in Parañaque City.
According to Philippines News Agency, energy officials are optimistic about achieving a 35 percent renewable energy share in the country's total energy mix by 2030, with the current share already at 25 percent by 2025 due to ongoing projects. However, Puno highlighted that the true measure of success lies in how power consumers experience this transition, rather than just meeting targets.
Puno stated that the energy transition must be both sustainable and reliable to meet consumer needs, emphasizing that "sustainability without reliability does not meet the needs of customers." He urged for closer collaboration between government and the private sector to ensure the success of this transition.
He further remarked that the Philippine energy future depends on coordinated decisions across various sectors, aiming for a power system that is cleaner, more reliable, secure, and competitive, which in turn would support the country's economic growth.
