Daraga: For 12 years, the Lucila couple, Charissa and Noli, faced the uncertainty of infertility, hoping for their own bundle of joy. Despite the challenges, their perseverance and faith were rewarded when Charissa gave birth to their daughter, Mary Francine.
According to Philippines News Agency, Charissa's journey began at 18 when she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, a condition that disrupts normal ovulation and is a leading cause of infertility. Despite the diagnosis, Charissa remained determined, undergoing various treatments and medications throughout her college years. Her husband, Noli, was informed of her condition from the outset and provided unwavering support.
After their marriage, the couple tried different medical treatments and consultations, but to no avail. The emotional, financial, and physical toll of the treatments eventually led them to put their dream on hold, especially since they couldn't afford in vitro fertilization (IVF). Their faith played a crucial role during this period, as they surrendered their hopes to a higher power.
The global pandemic in 2020 inadvertently became a turning point for Charissa. Due to travel restrictions, she stopped all medications, which she later realized gave her body much-needed rest. In 2022, a medical checkup revealed a positive change in her condition, sparking hope. However, it wasn't until 2024 that Charissa's unexpected pregnancy test finally showed positive results, marking the end of their long wait.
Charissa gave birth to Mary Francine on August 27, 2024, at the age of 39. Although the journey to motherhood carried complications, including high blood pressure and gestational diabetes, the couple's resilience saw them through. A routine check-up led to an emergency C-section when doctors detected distress signs in the baby.
The birth of their daughter brought immense joy and gratitude to Charissa, who had long prayed for this moment. Now celebrating her first Mother's Day as a mom, Charissa balances her role as a bank manager with motherhood's demands. Her husband, Noli, describes her as a dedicated wife and mother, committed to their family's welfare.
Charissa's message to couples facing infertility is one of hope and patience. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining a strong bond and enjoying each other's company, reminding others that having a baby is not a contest. When the right time comes, she believes it will be worth the wait.
