Northern samar: Several road sections in Northern Samar have become impassable due to flooding from continuous rains, according to Monday's advisories from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to Philippines News Agency, as of 1 p.m. Monday, the De Maria Bridge along Bugko-Nenita-Mirador-Cagpanit-an-De Maria-San Jose Tertiary Road in Mondragon, Northern Samar, is impassable to all types of vehicles. DPWH reported that floodwaters at the bridge reached an estimated depth of 0.80 meters, making travel unsafe.

A separate road advisory also reported flooding on the Catarman-Calbayog Road, a secondary road in Barangay Bayho, Lope de Vega, Northern Samar. The floodwater was around 0.60 meters deep. Due to the condition, the affected road section is impassable to light vehicles, while heavy vehicle operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when traversing the area.

In Catarman town, a mudflow was reported along the national highway in Somoge village, prompting authorities to close the road. 'Continuous monitoring is being conducted on all affected road sections. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded areas and remain alert for further advisories as weather conditions are monitored,' the DPWH said in a statement.

Meanwhile, classes and government work were suspended in Northern Samar and Eastern Samar provinces on Monday as continuous heavy rainfall, brought by the shear line, affected several areas. In Northern Samar, Governor Harris Ongchuan ordered the suspension of classes at all levels across the province. Work in all government offices was likewise suspended amid persistent rains.

Several areas in the province experienced flooding, including the municipality of Lope de Vega. Mayor Bobby Saludario reported via a social media post that floodwaters on roads in barangays Geratigan and San Miguel reached knee-deep levels. At least 20 out of the 22 villages in the municipality were affected by flooding.

In Eastern Samar, Governor Ralph Vincent Evardone also ordered the suspension of classes at all levels and government office work, as heavy rains continued to affect the province. Several schools in Eastern Visayas, including Tacloban City, have suspended Monday afternoon classes after the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council raised an orange rainfall warning across several provinces in the region.
