Davao: Davao Region's year-on-year headline inflation rate rose by 0.3 percentage points, from 8.1 percent in July last year to 8.4 percent in July this year, the Philippine Statistics Authority in Davao Region (PSA-11) bared on Thursday. "This brings the average inflation rate from January to July 2026 to 6.5 percent. In July 2025, the region's inflation was lower at -0.4 percent," the agency said in a bulletin.
According to Philippines News Agency, PSA-11 attributed the July 2026 inflation uptrend mainly to a faster annual increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index, at 9.3 percent from 8.7 percent, and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels index, at 12.0 percent from 11.0 percent. "Also contributing to the uptrend of the overall inflation were the faster annual increases observed in the indices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, at 4.9 percent from 4.5 percent; furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance, at 2.7 percent from 2.6 percent; and health, at 6.8 percent from 6.7 percent," the agency added.
On the other hand, PSA-11 noted lower inflation rates in the commodity groups of clothing and footwear, at 2.4 percent from 2.5 percent; transport, at 11.7 percent from 12.6 percent; information and communication, at 0.4 percent from 0.6 percent; and education services, at 3.4 percent from 7.9 percent. Meanwhile, the following commodity groups retained their previous month's inflation rates: recreation, sport, and culture, at 4.3 percent; restaurants and accommodation services, at 3.5 percent; financial services, at 0.0 percent; and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services, at 3.9 percent.
The top three commodity groups contributing to the July 2026 overall inflation rate were food and non-alcoholic beverages with a 48.0 percent share, or 4.0 percentage points; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels with a 26.7 percent share, or 2.2 percentage points; and transport with a 13.1 percent share, or 1.1 percentage points.
On the other hand, PSA-11 reported that the region's food inflation recorded a faster annual increment at 10.0 percent in July 2026 from 9.3 percent in June 2026. "In July 2025, food inflation was lower at -2.8 percent," the agency added.
