Bacolod: The city government on Tuesday commended Jayvee Fuentebella, a former monitored child of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), for topping the April 2025 Electronics Technician (ECT) Licensure Examination.
According to Philippine News Agency, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez expressed the city's pride in Fuentebella's achievement, congratulating him for his perseverance in improving his family's life. Fuentebella, from Barangay 3, is a former 4Ps beneficiary along with his family, which adds to the significance of his accomplishment.
Fuentebella, accompanied by his mother Mary Grace, met with City Department of Social Services Head Richelle Verdeprado Mangga, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) City Action Team Leader Ryan Cezar, and City Link Sweetly Lalisa at the Bacolod City Government Center. Both Fuentebella and his classmate Jan Frederick Valenton, graduates of Technological University of the Philippines (TUP)-Visayas, topped the ECT examination with a rating of 95 percent, alongside three other examinees out of 2,411 test takers.
While in college, Fuentebella was a Department of Science and Technology scholar under Republic Act 7687, the Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994. In a media interview, Fuentebella expressed gratitude, attributing his success to faith in God and sharing his happiness upon fulfilling promises to his parents.
Earlier, DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao highlighted Fuentebella's achievement as a source of pride for his family and community, inspiring other 4Ps children. Dumlao emphasized the long-term impact of investing in human capital through education and support services, noting that the Fuentebella family is set to exit the 4Ps program, having reached a level of self-sufficiency.
