DHSUD and DOLE Collaborate to Establish Workers Rehabilitation Center in Tanay

Tanay: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) have partnered to enhance the welfare of Filipino workers who have suffered from work-related injuries and disabilities. This collaboration aims to uplift their lives through the establishment of a Workers Rehabilitation Center Complex (WRCC) in Tanay, Rizal.

According to Philippine News Agency, the memorandum of agreement signed by the two departments outlines the creation of the WRCC, which will serve as a medical rehabilitation and livelihood support hub. It will also offer worker-friendly housing opportunities to Filipino workers. DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar emphasized the significance of this agreement, stating that it represents a commitment to compassion and inclusion for workers injured in the line of duty.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma highlighted the WRCC as a realization of the agencies' shared vision. He noted that the center is designed to foster a society that values human dignity and prioritizes healing and integration, ultimately providing injured workers with a deserved second chance.

The project will be financed by the Employees' Compensation Commission, an attached agency of DOLE, through the state insurance fund. The DHSUD will play a pivotal role in drafting project specifications, bidding documents, and procurement requirements. The WRCC is planned to be constructed on a 500,000-square-meter land in Barangay Cuyambay, utilizing the design and build scheme under national procurement laws.

The Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the local government unit of Tanay will collaborate to ensure the project's completion, further solidifying the support for this initiative.
