Liloan: Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco stated that her recent trip to London on November 4 was to lead the Philippine delegation at the World Travel Market (WTM), coinciding with Typhoon Tino's impact on Cebu, including her hometown of Liloan. Frasco's presence abroad during the typhoon drew criticism online.
According to Philippines News Agency, Frasco arrived in the United Kingdom on Tuesday morning to participate in the WTM Ministerial Summit and oversee the opening of the Philippine Stand. She emphasized that she took a return flight the following day due to the severe situation in Cebu. "Given the severe situation in Cebu, I took a flight the very next day, November 5, to return to the Philippines. When we arrived today, November 6, we proceeded directly to Liloan," she said in a statement on Thursday night.
Frasco also mentioned that she immediately sought assistance from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other Cabinet members after gathering information from affected areas. Upon her return, she, along with her husband Rep. Duke Frasco and Liloan Mayor Aljew Frasco, distributed cash assistance and food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to affected families in Tiltilon, Cotcot.
She assured that discussions for ongoing relief efforts are underway, with plans to deploy thousands of food packs in the coming days. Liloan was one of the towns severely affected by the flooding caused by Typhoon Tino, which struck several parts of the Visayas and Mindanao regions. The latest government report indicates that at least 35 people lost their lives in the municipality.
