Manila: Super Typhoon Fung-wong has struck the Philippines, unleashing powerful winds reaching up to 230 kilometers per hour (140 mph) and prompting the evacuation of more than 1 million people. The storm, known locally as Uwan, has caused power outages in northeastern coastal areas, including Catanduanes and Luzon, as it spans nearly the entire archipelago. Meteorologists have issued warnings of widespread flooding across the affected regions.
According to Deutsche Welle, the recovery efforts following the recent Typhoon Kalmaegi, which devastated the central Philippines just days earlier, have been suspended due to the impact of Typhoon Fung-wong. The suspension of recovery activities highlights the severe challenges faced by the country as it grapples with the destructive forces of two typhoons in quick succession.
