Globe Telecom Seeks More Time to Comply with Davao Cable Cleanup Ordinance

Davao City: Globe Telecom, a leading mobile phone and telecommunications firm in the country, has expressed its support for the city government's ongoing cleanup of overhead cables. City Ordinance No. 0354-23, or the Anti-Spaghetti Wire Ordinance of 2023, mandates telecommunications service providers to move installations to designated poles and reduce cable clutter in public areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, Adonis Evangelista, head of customer services for Visayas and Mindanao at Globe, explained they had difficulties complying because they often receive notifications only days before clearing activities, leaving their teams with little time to adjust and inform affected customers. 'We hope for better coordination among all stakeholders involved so that any disruption to essential services, like internet connectivity, can be minimized,' Evangelista said in a statement Monday.

Evangelista said cable clearing operations can significantly impact customers who rely on these services daily, as repairs typically take between 24 and 48 hours. He also assured the company's willingness to collaborate closely with the city government and all parties involved to minimize the impact on customers and facilitate a smoother implementation of the ordinance.

'We commit to continuing real-time SMS (short message service) alerts to affected customers and addressing any service concerns as quickly as possible,' he assured.
