Government Allocates P1 Billion Aid and Shelters Over 52,000 Storm Evacuees

Manila: The government has provided shelter to 15,523 families, accounting for 52,543 individuals, affected by storms Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and the ongoing southwest monsoon, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

According to Philippines News Agency, these evacuees are currently residing in 701 evacuation centers activated due to the adverse weather conditions. OCD public information officer Diego Mariano reported that the government has extended approximately PHP1 billion in assistance to the affected communities. The evacuees are part of the 6,620,335 individuals impacted by the inclement weather over recent weeks, which equates to 1,905,622 families spread across several regions including Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the National Capital Region.

The death toll under validation stands at 29, with 19 reported injuries and three individuals still missing. The storms have also resulted in significant property damage, with 2,110 houses affected; of these, 1,884 are partially damaged, while 226 are completely destroyed. Additionally, infrastructure damage is estimated at PHP4.8 billion, and the agricultural sector has suffered losses amounting to PHP1.7 billion.
