Manila: The government will persist in implementing employment initiatives through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), even as it has successfully provided jobs to over 100,000 individuals through its various programs. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. made this announcement during his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA), highlighting the significant achievements of these initiatives.

According to Philippines News Agency, the President reported that during the May 1, 2026 Labor Day job fair, more than 6,000 applicants were immediately hired. This job fair was part of a broader effort to connect job seekers with opportunities, amidst the challenges posed by fluctuating crude oil prices. The government organized nearly a hundred job fairs nationwide, announcing approximately 300,000 job openings to the public.

The DOLE's Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) and Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) programs have been instrumental in these efforts. Beneficiaries of these programs received their wages for participating in community-based projects that address local needs, while also gaining temporary employment. DILEEP specifically aims to reduce poverty and vulnerability by providing emergency employment and promoting entrepreneurship among marginalized workers.

TUPAD offers short-term employment opportunities, ensuring that beneficiaries earn the minimum wage while contributing to community projects. These initiatives highlight the government's commitment to supporting the working poor and vulnerable populations through sustainable employment solutions.
