Gov’t Assures Readiness Amid Rising Middle East Conflict

Manila: Malaca±ang has moved to address growing public concern over the possibility of a global war, assuring Filipinos that the government is prepared to respond to any situation as tensions rise in the Middle East. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed relevant agencies to prioritize the protection and welfare of overseas Filipinos, particularly those in high-risk areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized the President's message of readiness and government support in a recent Palace press briefing. The statement aimed to calm fears fueled by online discussions of a potential World War III, as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies.

The tension escalated over the weekend following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. US President Donald Trump has warned of further attacks unless Iran opts for peace, while Tehran has vowed to defend itself against what it calls US military aggression.

In response to these developments, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reiterated its call for calm and diplomacy, emphasizing the need for peaceful and diplomatic solutions to the crisis. Castro echoed this sentiment, highlighting the President's support for efforts to prevent war and ensure regional peace.

The conflict's impact is significant, with over 2.2 million Filipinos residing in the Middle East, including around 30,000 in Israel and approximately 1,180 in Iran. Due to the escalating situation, the Philippines has raised Alert Level 3 in both countries, encouraging voluntary repatriation and urging citizens to take extra precautions. Government agencies are actively assisting those who wish to return home.
