Legazpi city: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 5 in the Bicol region has initiated the process of profiling potential beneficiaries for its livelihood and emergency employment assistance program, targeting families impacted by the ongoing unrest of the Mayon Volcano.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOLE-5 Director Imelda Gatinao disclosed in a phone interview that approximately PHP6 million has been allocated for emergency employment through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. Gatinao emphasized that DOLE has been actively engaged in supporting recovery efforts for those affected by natural disasters, particularly displaced workers. The department's coordinators are collaborating closely with local government units and utilizing data from the Albay Public Safety Emergency and Management Office to ensure effective assistance.

Coordinators are stationed at evacuation sites to identify eligible beneficiaries, primarily displaced agricultural workers from the permanent danger zone. Gatinao mentioned, "As soon as we are done, we will start orientation. Eventually, there will be work based on the identified jobs." The initiative anticipates reaching about 1,132 individuals, although this number may increase as more displacement reports emerge.

The TUPAD beneficiaries will be engaged in various tasks to maintain cleanliness and sanitation within evacuation centers, such as waste segregation, upkeep of temporary shelters, and maintenance of water and toilet facilities. Additionally, they will assist in packing and distributing relief goods and participate in community gardening projects to address prolonged volcanic unrest.
