Grounding Order for Philippine Fighter Jet Fleet Expected to Be Lifted This Week

Quezon City: The Philippine Air Force (PAF) announced on Tuesday that the grounding order for its fleet of 11 FA-50PH fighter jets is anticipated to be lifted this week. This update was provided during a press briefing held at Camp Aguinaldo, where PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo detailed the progress of the ongoing "comprehensive inspection" of the fleet.

According to Philippines News Agency, Col. Castillo emphasized the PAF's commitment to restoring the fighter jets to full operational status imminently. The grounding was initially ordered after a similar aircraft crashed during a nighttime tactical operation in Bukidnon on March 5, resulting in the tragic loss of two pilots. The fleet plays a crucial role in maritime patrol, airspace security, and supporting ongoing military operations.

Col. Castillo noted that the results from tests conducted abroad are still pending. "We are awaiting the results of the voice and data extraction and assessment, which was done overseas," she remarked. Additionally, the investigation team is conducting visual interviews with all personnel involved during and after the incident.

The PAF is also meticulously reviewing all maintenance and history records of the aircraft involved. "We are committed to conducting a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation to ensure the safety of future operations," Castillo stated. The PAF aims to provide assurance that safety measures are being prioritized as the fleet is poised to resume its essential missions.
