GSIS Launches ‘Digital Ginhawa’ Loan for Government Employees’ Tech Needs

Manila: The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has unveiled a novel loan program designed to assist government employees in acquiring essential technology such as laptops, tablets, and mobile phones for work and study purposes. This initiative, known as the 'Digital Ginhawa' loan, aims to facilitate government workers' transition to digital and hybrid work environments.

According to Philippines News Agency, starting October 10, GSIS members can apply for the loan via the GSIS Touch mobile app, streamlining the process into a quick, paperless transaction. Once approved, the loan amount will be deposited directly into the member's GSIS ATM account within one to three banking days after receiving agency approval.

GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso emphasized the program's significance, acknowledging the increasing necessity for digital tools among public servants. He remarked, "We know the reality. In work-from-home and online learning, computers and gadgets are necessities, not luxuries. That's why we launched the Digital Ginhawa loan to help our members acquire the tools they need for work and study."

The loan initiative supports GSIS' ongoing digital transformation efforts by encouraging members to utilize the GSIS Touch app for various services, including loan applications, record updates, and access to pension and insurance services. This new program builds on the success of the 2020 GSIS Computer Loan Program, which provided over PHP10.67 billion in loans to more than 355,000 members.

Eligibility for the 'Digital Ginhawa' loan requires members to be in active service under permanent status, have no pending administrative or criminal cases, and have no defaulted GSIS loans, except for housing or computer loans. Additionally, the loan includes a loan redemption insurance feature, ensuring any remaining balance is covered in the event of the borrower's death during the repayment period.
