Davao: All airports and seaports in Mindanao are operational after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Davao Oriental on Friday, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
According to Philippines News Agency, DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez stated that he directed the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to continue monitoring and observing airports and seaports in the event of aftershocks. Lopez assured that all ports and airports, including Davao Airport, are fully operational.
The statement comes in response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive for the DOTr to ensure all transportation facilities remain functional to support emergency air and sea transport. The Philippine Coast Guard has also been instructed to deploy response groups for search and rescue missions in affected communities.
Personnel from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) are assisting commuters and motorists in Davao to ensure road and commuter safety. To aid those stranded, Love Buses have been rerouted to provide free rides, offering transportation to those affected by the earthquake.
Additionally, Lopez announced the postponement of the Siargao International Surfing Cup 2025, which was scheduled from October 23 to 31.
