GSIS Reports PHP94.7 Billion Income in First Half of 2026, Enhances Member Programs

Manila: The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) reported a net income of PHP94.75 billion for the first half of 2026, marking a 27.78 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is attributed to continuous benefit disbursements and expanded support initiatives for government employees and retirees.

According to Philippines News Agency, GSIS's gross income saw a rise of 15.03 percent, reaching PHP195.38 billion from PHP169.9 billion in the previous year. As of June 30, total assets stood at PHP2.05 trillion, up from PHP1.98 trillion at the end of 2025. Administrative expenses were reported at PHP5.53 billion, maintaining an administrative loading of 2.55 percent, significantly lower than the statutory ceiling of 12 percent.

During this period, 94 centavos of every peso spent went directly to member and pensioner claims and benefits. GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso emphasized the importance of translating financial figures into tangible benefits for government workers and retirees, stating, "Numbers on the income statement mean nothing until they become pensions paid on time, claims released without delay, or financial assistance a family can actually use."

The GSIS financial success has also bolstered several "Ginhawa" programs initiated after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s declaration of a national energy emergency. These initiatives include the Balik Ginhawa program, which refunded nearly PHP18.3 billion in loan amortizations to over one million members and pensioners, the Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan with PHP7.3 billion released to over 23,000 members, the Ginhawa Bike and E-Mobility Loan with over PHP1.7 billion in approved financing, and the newly introduced Ginhawa Health Assistance Loan offering zero-interest financing for health maintenance organization premiums.

Veloso highlighted that the latest actuarial study confirms GSIS's financial sustainability until 2058, ensuring continued benefit delivery while securing retirement funds for future generations of government workers. "Financial sustainability allows the GSIS to deliver social dividends today while protecting the benefits of future generations," he added.
