Manila: The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has announced the appointment of former Department of Budget and Management (DBM) acting secretary Rolando Toledo to its Board of Trustees. The institution highlighted Toledo's extensive experience in fiscal management, governance, and public sector reform as key qualifications for his new role.
According to Philippines News Agency, GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso emphasized that Toledo's appointment is timely as the organization focuses on digitalizing operations, enhancing governance, and improving services for government workers, retirees, and pensioners. Veloso expressed confidence in Toledo's ability to guide GSIS with prudence and professionalism, noting his deep understanding of governance and public sector management.
Toledo's career in government spans nearly four decades, during which he has held significant roles in fiscal policy, planning and budgeting, organizational management, and government efficiency programs. He is a certified public accountant with advanced studies in Development Economics from the University of the Philippines School of Economics and a master's degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.
According to GSIS, Toledo's expertise in public administration and good governance will support the institution's mission to protect the welfare of its members and pensioners. The organization also expressed gratitude to outgoing trustee Beatriz Torno for her service and contributions to the Board.
Torno, an esteemed educator and career public servant, held key positions in the Department of Education, including regional director for Central Luzon. She retired in 2019 but brought valuable insights to GSIS Board discussions, particularly on issues affecting pensioners and government employees.
GSIS President Veloso praised Torno for her wisdom, professionalism, and dedication. He acknowledged her significant impact on the Board and the example she set as a public servant and educator.
