Habagat Brings Rains Across Luzon; Low-Pressure Area Observed Outside PAR

Manila: The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is expected to continue bringing rain across many parts of Luzon on Monday, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA released a 5 a.m. advisory indicating that areas including Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. The rest of Luzon is forecast to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the influence of the habagat. Visayas and Mindanao are also predicted to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies accompanied by isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, attributed to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA has warned that there is a potential for flash floods or landslides due to moderate t o heavy rains or severe thunderstorms. In addition to the ongoing weather conditions, PAGASA has identified a new low-pressure area (LPA) located 1,400 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. The weather bureau has assessed that the LPA currently has a small chance of entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). For Luzon, moderate to strong southwest to south winds are expected, leading to moderate to rough sea conditions. Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will experience light to moderate southeast to south winds, resulting in slight to moderate coastal waters.
