‘Habagat’ to Bring Rains Across Philippines Due to Southwest Monsoon

Manila: Most areas in the country will experience rains due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat", the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday. This weather pattern is expected to bring occasional rains over Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

According to Philippines News Agency, "habagat" will also cause scattered rains and thunderstorms across Metro Manila, Calabarzon, the Bicol Region, and the rest of Central Luzon and Mimaropa, as well as the Visayas. The weather bureau has warned that moderate to heavy rains in these regions could result in floods or landslides.

Elsewhere in the country, isolated rain showers are expected due to "habagat" and localized thunderstorms. The western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas are forecast to experience moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters. Other areas will see light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA reported.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression. As of 3 a.m., it was located 600 kilometers west southwest of Bacnotan, La Union, or 535 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales. Forecaster Chenel Dominguez mentioned that while there is a possibility of this tropical depression entering PAR, it is not expected to affect any part of the country. Currently, no other weather disturbances are being monitored by PAGASA.
