Cagayan de oro: The local government and partner agencies are on high alert for Monday's weather as they continue to clear roads blocked by recent landslides and flooding. The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department (CDRRMD) reported eight landslides in Barangay Dansolihon. Simultaneously, residents in Barangays Iponan and Canitoan evacuated after the Iponan River's level rose sharply on Sunday afternoon.
According to Philippines News Agency, Barangay Canitoan Chairperson Lancelot Padla said they assisted 108 families. Neighboring Barangay Pagatpat also reported that a dike along the Iponan River was partly damaged due to the floodwater.
In a statement, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Northern Mindanao (DPWH-10) said it is assisting with clearing operations, as some roads remained partly blocked. DPWH-10 1st District Engineer Ana Lee Manzano said the Uguiaban Bypass, a critical road connecting this city to Bukidnon province, was affected by a large landslide.
"The landslide covered the road with a length of 50 meters, and the height was two to three meters," Manzano said in an interview. The weather outlook for Cagayan de Oro (CDO) City until Oct. 31 indicates up to 60-percent chance of rainfall.
