Hong Kong Prepares for Typhoon Wipha with Flight Cancellations and School Closures

Hong Kong: As Typhoon Wipha approaches, Hong Kong has taken precautionary measures, including canceling flights and suspending classes. The city's weather observatory has issued the T10 hurricane alert, indicating that winds with mean speeds of 118 kilometers per hour or more are expected, posing a considerable threat to the region.

According to France24.com, over 200 people have sought refuge in government-run temporary shelters. Authorities reported that one man required medical treatment at a public hospital's emergency room on Sunday morning. Additionally, officials have received more than a dozen reports of fallen trees throughout the city.

In response to the impending typhoon, authorities have suspended Sunday classes at all day schools and daycare centers. Local train services are also affected, with limited operations and suspensions in open sections to ensure public safety.

Typhoon Wipha has already impacted other regions, bringing heavy rains and flooding to the Philippines, where two people have been reported missing, according to the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Hong Kong last issued the T10 warning signal for Super Typhoon Saola in 2023, highlighting the severity of the current situation.
