House of Representatives Elects Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as Speaker

Manila: The House of Representatives elected Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as the Speaker of the 20th Congress on Monday. Romualdez secured 269 votes, while 34 members abstained from voting.

According to Philippines News Agency, Romualdez's nomination was presented by Quezon 2nd District Representative David 'Jay-Jay' Suarez. Suarez emphasized Romualdez's leadership in the previous 19th Congress, highlighting his ability to guide the House with resolve and insight. Suarez noted that under Romualdez's leadership, the House of Representatives emerged as a responsive institution, addressing national needs and prioritizing unity, service, and progress.

Suarez further elaborated on Romualdez's leadership qualities, describing him as a figure of quiet strength, strategic foresight, and dedication to public service. He praised Romualdez for championing significant reforms, fostering cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, and ensuring inclusive representation in national discussions. The achievements under Romualdez's leadership reportedly include passing priority measures that aligned with the goals of Bagong Pilipinas and promoting sustainable growth.

Suarez urged his fellow legislators to support Romualdez, citing his dignified and compassionate leadership. His nomination received additional support from Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos, Quezon 1st District Representative Mark Enverga, and others.
