House of Representatives Ensures Funding for New Pediatric Facility at Philippine Children’s Medical Center

Manila: The leadership of the House of Representatives assured continued funding for the Philippine Children's Medical Center (PCMC), emphasizing it as an investment in the children's future. Speaker Martin Romualdez made this commitment following the capsule-laying and groundbreaking ceremony for PCMC's new 20-story Center for Advanced Pediatric Services, a part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s Legacy Specialty Hospitals initiative.

According to Philippines News Agency, Romualdez highlighted the importance of the new facility, stating it would serve as a multi-specialty center addressing complex diseases such as pediatric cancer and brain and spine disorders. The project is supported by Congress, which allocated funding last year for the Advanced Comprehensive Center for Pediatric Brain and Spine and the Pediatric Cancer Center under Marcos' directive.

The upcoming 20-story structure will house 500 beds and feature advanced medical technology, including a Modern Cancer Center and subspecialty services in infectious diseases, nephrology, cardiology, pulmonology, endocrinology, neurology, surgery, intensive care, and rehabilitation. Romualdez reiterated Marcos' commitment to enhancing pediatric healthcare in the country with comprehensive funding support from the House of Representatives.

This initiative also realizes the vision of former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, who established a cluster of specialty hospitals in the East Avenue-Quezon Avenue area to provide quality healthcare to Filipinos. This cluster includes PCMC (formerly Lungsod ng Kabataan), the Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, and the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

PCMC deputy executive director Dr. Cecilia Gan expressed gratitude for the project, acknowledging that the new facility would enable the hospital to serve more children effectively.
