Davao city: The household population of Davao Region reached 5,365,637 in 2024, accounting for 99.6 percent of the region's total population of 5,389,422, according to the latest census from the Philippine Statistics Authority-Davao Region (PSA-11).
According to Philippines News Agency, compared with 2020, the household population rose by 2.7 percent, or 141,835 persons. "From 2015 to 2024, it grew by 10.2 percent, equivalent to 498,469 persons," the agency added. The household population in the Philippines is the number of people who live in private homes, apartments, or shared living spaces, according to the PSA. It counts people who sleep under the same roof and share food expenses.
The institutional population totaled 23,785 in 2024, representing 0.4 percent of the region's total. While higher than in 2020, it remained below the 2015 level. Across four census years, institutional residents -- those in hospitals, orphanages, military camps, and correctional facilities -- consistently accounted for less than 1 percent of the total population.
The number of households in the region reached 1,513,680 in 2024, up 13.1 percent from 1,337,781 in 2020. "Compared with 2015, households increased by 28.6 percent, or 336,219, and by nearly half since 2010. Alongside the growth, average household size continued to decline, dropping to 3.5 persons in 2024 from 3.9 in 2020, 4.1 in 2015, and 4.4 in 2010," PSA-11 added.
The City of Davao, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro accounted for 70.4 percent of the region's household population. Davao City posted the largest share with 1,841,875 persons, representing more than one-third of the total. Davao City also recorded the highest number of households at 543,854, followed by Davao del Norte (304,382) and Davao de Oro (209,252). Together, these areas comprised 69.8 percent of the region's total households. Davao Occidental posted the least with 88,084.
Average household size was highest in Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte at 3.7 persons per household, followed by Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental at 3.6. Davao City and Davao del Sur recorded the lowest at 3.4. Overall, the household population of the Philippines reached 112.33 million persons, or 99.6 percent of the country's total population in 2024. This was higher by 3.4 percent or 3.66 million from the 108.67 million in 2020, and by 11.7 percent or 11.75 million from the 100.57 million in 2015.
