Pasig city: The Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has announced its collaboration with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to verify luxury vehicles confiscated from the residence of contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya in Pasig City. The vehicles were seized under a search warrant, and the HPG is now playing a crucial role in the validation process.
According to Philippines News Agency, during a news briefing at Camp Crame, HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang revealed that the BOC has sought the group's assistance in examining the records of the seized vehicles. The HPG has already submitted a validation report on eight out of the twelve luxury vehicles to the BOC. The next steps, based on the findings, are to be determined by the BOC.
The HPG's report includes essential information such as vehicle type, country of origin, motor vehicle file number, and registered owner. However, Lt. Malang refrained from disclosing specific details of the findings, indicating that it is up to the BOC to decide on making the information public.
While there has been no formal request to inspect other vehicles owned by the Discayas or linked to ghost projects, ongoing coordination between the PNP and BOC suggests further investigations might be on the horizon. Lt. Malang emphasized the readiness of the HPG to assist if needed, with continuous meetings being held between both agencies to finalize their course of action.
This effort is part of a wider investigation into the questionable wealth associated with contractors involved in government flood control projects. The HPG's role includes inspecting and verifying all imported vehicles entering the country to ensure proper documentation and ownership before registration at the Land Transportation Office.
