Palace Releases Official List of 2026 Holidays

Manila: Malaca±ang has released the official list of regular holidays and special non-working days for 2026. President Ferdinand R. Marcos, on Sept. 3, signed Proclamation 1006, containing the list of holidays for next year.

According to Philippines News Agency, the proclamation lists the following dates as regular holidays: January 1 (Thursday) for New Year's Day, April 2 for Maundy Thursday, April 3 for Good Friday, April 9 (Thursday) for Araw ng Kagitingan, May 1 (Friday) for Labor Day, June 12 (Friday) for Independence Day, August 31 (the last Monday of August) for National Heroes Day, November 30 (Monday) for Bonifacio Day, December 25 (Friday) for Christmas Day, and December 30 (Wednesday) for Rizal Day.

Special non-working days include August 21 (Friday) for Ninoy Aquino Day, November 1 (Sunday) for All Saints' Day, December 8 (Tuesday) for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, and December 31 (Thursday) for the Last Day of the Year. Additional special non-working days are February 17 (Tuesday) for Chinese New Year, April 4 for Black Saturday, November 2 (Monday) for All Souls' Day, and December 24 (Thursday) for Christmas Eve.

Proclamation 1006 also declares February 25, 2026 (Wednesday) as a special working day to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is tasked with issuing guidelines for the proclamation, which takes effect immediately.

The proclamation notes that national holidays for Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha will be declared later based on the Islamic calendar or astronomical calculations, with recommendations from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

February 17, 2026, may be declared a special non-working day due to the cultural significance of the Chinese New Year in the Philippines. Black Saturday on April 4, 2026, will also be a special non-working day, maintaining a tradition observed during Holy Week. August 21 is a national non-working holiday to honor the death anniversary of former Senator Benigno S. Aquino Jr., while December 8 marks the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary as a special non-working holiday.

The proclamation emphasizes that declaring November 2 and December 24 as additional special non-working days will enhance family ties and support domestic tourism by allowing more time for traditional activities related to All Saints' Day, All Souls' Day, and Christmas. Proclamation 1006 was published in the Manila Bulletin.
