Bangued: A manhunt is underway for the four assailants responsible for the killing of a former mayor of Langangilang town in Abra province on Tuesday morning. Col. Carolina Lacuata, information officer of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (PROCAR), reported that Jendricks Seares Luna, 54, was sitting at a kiosk in front of his house in Barangay Dangdangla, Bangued town, when four individuals on two motorcycles approached and shot him.
According to Philippines News Agency, Luna was rushed to Seares Memorial Hospital by his relatives but was declared dead by the attending physician. Initial investigations indicated that the victim was shot multiple times before the suspects fled in an unknown direction.
Authorities, including Municipal Police Stations, Mobile Forces, and intelligence operatives, have been alerted to conduct a dragnet operation to potentially apprehend the suspects. "Our policemen on the field are following up on the incident," Lacuata said.
Around midday, police operatives found two abandoned motorcycles in Barangay Cosili of the same municipality. However, it remains unclear if these vehicles were used by the suspects. Luna, who served as Langangilang mayor from 2016 to 2019, had recently contested for a District 1 Board member position in the national and local elections but was unsuccessful.
