Hunt on for Maguindanao Sur Grenade Attackers, 5 Hurt

Manila: A manhunt is ongoing against motorcycle-riding grenade attackers who injured two soldiers and three civilians in Barangay Poblacion here on Saturday morning. Capt. Steffi Salanguit, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), reported that the grenade attack occurred at about 6:25 a.m. at the town's roundabout and in front of a mosque.

According to Philippines News Agency, 'Five persons, including two soldiers, sustained minor injuries. They are now in the hospital,' Salanguit said in a radio interview. She noted that two men on a motorcycle lobbed the grenade toward a passing military truck, then sped away, leaving the victims to be rushed to the Bangsamoro Regional Medical Center in Shariff Aguak for medical treatment.

Shariff Aguak Mayor Akmad Ampatuan stated that authorities are making efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators. 'We urge everyone to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities. Please rely only on official announcements issued by the municipal government and the PNP (Philippine National Police),' he said in a statement.
