ICI: Online Posts on Supposed Villar Outburst Fake News

Manila: The Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) on Friday denounced as fake news online posts claiming that Senator Mark Villar lost his temper and caused a scene when he appeared before the body. 'This is not true. The proceedings were orderly, similar to the other hearings conducted by the ICI. We will be issuing disclaimers on allegations which are false, and we will be relying on legitimate and responsible media outlets to inform the public on what is the truth,' ICI executive director Brian Hosaka told reporters.

According to Philippines News Agency, the ICI had asked Villar to shed light on the flood control anomalies. He had served as Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary from 2016 to 2021, and chairs the Senate Committee on Public Works.

Meanwhile, the ICI said the Public Attorney's Office (PAO) will assist the ICI on its legal requirements. "PAO lawyers will be assisting with the legal requirements of the ICI pursuant to its mandate. This is also in connection with the memorandum of the Office of the Executive Secretary to all executive offices and agencies to extend full assistance and cooperation to the ICI," Hosaka said.
