Iloilo City: The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has ramped up its security preparations as the local campaign period begins Friday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the ICPO announced the deployment of additional personnel to key areas, including campaign venues, public spaces, and high-risk locations, to prevent threats and ensure a swift response to security concerns.
ICPO Director Col. Kim Legada has been leading coordination meetings and collaborations with unit commanders, ensuring that all necessary orders and instructions are in place for a smooth and secure campaign season. The local police is working closely with the local government, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and other stakeholders to maintain order.
Intelligence operations have also been intensified to identify and address potential security threats. Legada also reminded all members of the police force to remain apolitical during the entire election season. "We are here to serve and protect the public, regardless of political affiliations. It is crucial that we demonstrate impartiality to uphold the integrity of the elections and maintain peace and order during this critical period," he said in the statement.
Meanwhile, the ICPO joined Comelec Iloilo City and other stakeholders in launching the Committee on Kontra Bigay on Thursday. The committee, composed of law enforcement, government agencies, and civil society groups, aims to crack down on vote-buying and vote-selling through stricter regulations and enhanced enforcement mechanisms.
