Iligan City Implements Landmark Ban on Gambling in Government Offices

Iligan city: The Iligan City government issued an Executive Order (EO) on Monday banning government workers from participating in gambling activities, marking it as the first city in the Northern Mindanao Region to officially enforce such a prohibition.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Frederick Siao signed EO 95-2025, which restricts city government employees from engaging in all forms of gambling, including online platforms. The directive mandates all department heads and officers in charge to ensure the strict implementation and continuous monitoring of this order. Mayor Siao emphasized that violators would face both administrative and criminal penalties.

The directive aligns with a new memorandum from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, which prohibits government workers and officials from betting on online gambling applications. Mayor Siao also referred to Republic Act 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees in the Philippines, as a legal foundation for the order.
