The Iligan City government has earmarked PHP2.9 million to upgrade healthcare services in its barangays, focusing on modernizing facilities and expanding access to healthcare. Councilor Rosevi Queenie Belmonte said in a statement Tuesday that the funding is part of the city's broader social development programs aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable communities. 'This initiative strengthens our social development efforts and ensures that we are reaching our most vulnerable citizens effectively,' Belmonte said. The allocation will support the integration of "Smart Healthcare" technologies, including internet connectivity and improved communication systems in remote barangays, enabling telemedicine and online consultations. Additionally, barangay health workers will receive extra benefits under the program. Belmonte also highlighted the creation of Teen Centers, or Adolescent-Friendly Spaces, with separate funding to tackle issues such as teenage pregnancies and mental health concerns.
