Ilocos norte: The provincial police of Ilocos Norte have assured those visiting or returning home to the province during the long Undas (All Saints' and All Souls' Days) weekend of their safety.
According to Philippines News Agency, Col. Joemar Labiano, the provincial director of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO), stated in an interview that efforts are being made to uphold peace and security. He cited a report presented to Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos, highlighting a decrease in crime incidents in the province from January to October this year, with 542 incidents compared to 732 during the same period last year. Labiano emphasized that Ilocos Norte remains a peaceful province, attributing this to successful strategies and proactive engagement with various sectors.
For the long weekend, INPPO has intensified its efforts by deploying over 2,000 personnel, including support units and force multipliers, especially in areas with high visitor convergence. Since Tuesday, INPPO personnel, alongside firefighters, engineers, and support units, have been actively implementing plans to manage traffic and ensure public safety.
A total of 76 police assistance desks have been set up near cemeteries, and 28 motorist assistance centers are operational along major highways and entry points to the province. These measures are complemented by quick reaction teams ready for immediate response. Additionally, drones, communication radios, and patrol vehicles will be utilized for traffic management and incident response. Despite these preparations, INPPO advises the public to remain vigilant and observe safety precautions during the holiday.
