Ilocos norte: The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) has taken a significant step towards enhancing its service capabilities by acquiring new vehicles, aiming to improve power restoration and line patrol efficiency throughout the province.
According to Philippines News Agency, the newly purchased vehicles, which include three manlift trucks and 16 L300 vans, are valued at approximately PHP25 million. INEC assistant general manager Cipriano Martinez III highlighted that these acquisitions mark the initial phase of a broader initiative to upgrade the cooperative's equipment and facilities. This move is essential for keeping pace with the rapid growth rate in Ilocos Norte.
Martinez emphasized that the cooperative's existing equipment had become outdated, making it necessary to invest in new resources for the benefit of its member-consumer-owners. He also mentioned that additional equipment and materials for linemen are expected to arrive shortly, further enhancing service delivery.
Since last year, INEC, the sole power distribution utility in Ilocos Norte, has been undertaking upgrades to its distribution system to address frequent power outages. This includes the construction of new substations and the enhancement of existing ones to prevent issues such as overloading or underloading. Martinez reiterated the cooperative's goal of ensuring swift power restoration and efficient distribution.
Currently, INEC serves more than 183,000 members with an average daily electricity demand ranging from 56 to 80 megawatts, maintaining a collection efficiency rate of 98 percent.
