Manila: The provincial government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN), led by Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, is calling on Ilocanos worldwide to join the Genuine Ilokano (GI) program, which is accessible online at https://gi.ilocosnorte.ph/.
According to Philippines News Agency, while on a business trip to Hawaii, Araneta-Marcos encouraged overseas Ilocanos to strengthen their ties with the global Ilokano community through the program. This initiative provides opportunities for tourism, investment, MSME linkages, cultural engagement, and community partnerships.
Through the platform, members may access travel benefits, airport assistance, exclusive event invitations, tourism activities, and business and investment opportunities in Ilocos Norte. "Every Ilokano, no matter where they may be, will always have a place in the story of Ilocos Norte," the governor stated during the GI program launch at the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu, which was attended by hundreds of Filipino-Americans, business leaders, and local associations, mostly tracing their roots to Ilocos Norte.
"In many ways, the Genuine Ilokano program is our way of saying: you may have built your life across the world, but Ilocos Norte will always welcome you home with open arms, and there will always be a place for you in our future," she added.
While dollar remittances have significantly improved the lives of Ilocanos back home, the provincial government is encouraging balikbayans to invest in projects that can create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and support local enterprises. "We have different platforms in place. There are potential investment opportunities where they can choose how and where they want to grow their money," she added.
