Ilocos norte: Ilocos Norte Gov. Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, along with her team from the provincial government, is preparing for an important visit to the United States, focusing on Oahu, Hawaii, and Los Angeles, California, from May 15 to 25. The visit aims to reinforce economic and cultural ties between Ilocos Norte and these regions.
According to Philippines News Agency, the governor confirmed the visit on Monday and revealed plans to participate in a trade show and symposium. The event will include leaders from various sectors such as government, business, education, culture, and community from both Hawaii and the Philippines. The Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, and the Hawaii Philippines Business and Economic Council are collaborating to present the 4th annual Hawaii-Philippines Business Tradeshow, Symposium and Reception. The event is scheduled for May 19, from 2-7 p.m. at the Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach.
Keynote speakers at the event will include Ilocos Norte Gov. Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, and Hawaii Senate President Ronald Kouchi. Gov. Marcos is notably a relative of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. During an interview, she expressed the significance of Hawaii as an extension of Ilocos Norte, emphasizing the importance of such events in strengthening collaboration, especially in tourism, education, trade, and investment.
Additionally, the governor announced the launch of the 'Genuine Ilokano Program' in Hawaii, which aims to deepen economic and cultural connections with Ilocos Norte. This program acknowledges the province's historical ties to Filipino-Hawaiian migration. A heritage textile exhibition will also be part of the event, featuring local brands such as MAKA Collective, Siwabel bags and ShoeAbel of Vintar, Artritos, the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Office. The exhibition will showcase the skills and creativity of local artisans and entrepreneurs.
