Ilocos norte: The Ilocos Norte provincial government has commenced the distribution of cash assistance to village workers as part of its efforts to acknowledge their contributions to community development. On Wednesday, a total of 2,380 village workers from Bacarra and Vintar towns received PHP4,000 each, marking the first batch of beneficiaries for the current year.

According to Philippines News Agency, the distribution event took place at the covered courts of both towns and was led by Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos. The governor expressed gratitude to the village frontliners for their dedication and sacrifices in serving their communities. She emphasized the significance of the cash aid, suggesting that it provides a financial boost to start the new year positively.

Governor Araneta-Marcos highlighted that this cash aid initiative covers more than 19,000 village workers across the province's 559 barangays. It is part of an annual tradition by the provincial government to provide cash incentives to barangay workers as a symbol of appreciation for their volunteerism and community service.

Wilma Viernes, treasurer of Barangay 9 Sta. Angela in Laoag City, expressed her gratitude for the unexpected blessing, describing it as a privilege to serve the community. In a phone interview, she shared her appreciation for the recognition of their efforts.

Veejay Jose, a barangay peacekeeping officer from Barangay 22 San Guillermo, noted that the annual cash assistance is a source of encouragement for grassroots workers. He conveyed his gratitude for the recognition of their work in the community.

Jose's mother, Virginia, who works as a village health worker, also expressed her appreciation for the aid. She mentioned that the financial support helps in meeting daily needs and emphasized the fulfillment that comes from serving the community, particularly in promoting health and nutrition. She acknowledged that many village workers serve voluntarily, often receiving only minimal honoraria.
