Ilocos norte: Education stakeholders in Ilocos Norte have expressed their support for the Marcos administration's ongoing initiatives to prioritize the welfare of teachers. In his 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized that enhancing the education sector is a key focus of his administration, pledging to concentrate on learning recovery, mental health, and health services for students, particularly in remote areas.
According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos highlighted the launch of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program and the strengthening of Early Childhood Care and Development, both derived from critical legislation passed by Congress. He also addressed classroom shortages, announcing plans to construct 40,000 classrooms by 2028.
Further, Marcos assured public school teachers of receiving overload and overtime compensation from this school year, while also enhancing their access to digital systems and providing new laptops. Lawyer James Ceasar Ventura, a teacher in Solsona town, described the President's focus on teachers as "refreshing" and long overdue.
Leonora Melchor, a Grade 1 teacher at Mariano Marcos Memorial Elementary School in Batac City, appreciated the promise to hire more non-teaching staff to alleviate the workload on teachers. She expressed hope that these changes would be implemented swiftly at the grassroots level.
Additionally, Virgilio Julius Manzano, president of Mariano Marcos State University, expressed interest in developments across multiple sectors, including education, agriculture, transportation, and the eGov digitalization project. He noted that these initiatives reflect the administration's vision of reform, unity, and a progressive nation based on good governance and inclusive development.
