Currimao: The municipal government of Currimao is taking a significant step to safeguard the livelihoods of its agricultural and fishing communities by offering free insurance to 1,800 farmers and fisherfolk. This initiative aims to provide coverage under life and agricultural insurance, addressing the natural and economic risks that these local communities frequently encounter.

According to Philippines News Agency, the municipal agriculturist Erickson Biag emphasized that the program, in partnership with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, is designed to ensure financial protection against various unforeseen circumstances. These include accidents, death, natural calamities, crop losses, and other livelihood-related risks that can severely impact the income and security of farmers and fisherfolk.

Biag mentioned that, similar to the previous year, the local government unit of Currimao has allocated PHP200,000 to fund the insurance coverage. This allocation is part of the municipality's broader strategy to enhance the social safety net for those engaged in agriculture and fishing, sectors that are particularly vulnerable to environmental challenges.

Farmers and fisherfolk in the region often experience disruptions in income due to typhoons, droughts, floods, pests, and other hazards. Therefore, insurance serves as a crucial tool to protect their household finances and ensure stability.

The initiative offers eligible beneficiaries assistance in obtaining both life and agricultural insurance. This support provides them with greater security, enabling them to continue their essential role in food production and sustaining the local economy.

Currently, registration for the insurance coverage is ongoing, and applicants are encouraged to register at the Municipal Agriculture Office. This program highlights Currimao's dedication to fostering inclusive social protection, ensuring livelihood security, and creating resilient farming and fishing communities. It aids beneficiaries in recovering more swiftly when unexpected events disrupt their lives and income sources.

Expressing gratitude, Rainy Valente, a farmer from Comcomloong village, stated, "Thank you to the municipal government of Currimao for the love of farmers and fisherfolk. This means a lot to us for our safety and protection."
