Ilocos norte: Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander 'Sandro' Marcos was unanimously elected House of Representatives Majority Leader on Monday during the opening of the First Regular Session of the 20th Congress. Marcos is tasked with steering the House agenda, uniting the supermajority bloc, and advancing key reforms under the Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) vision of his father, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos will manage floor deliberations, oversee daily House operations, and fast-track priority legislation on economic recovery, education, infrastructure, digital innovation, and social equity. Reelected Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez of Leyte's 1st District declared the election of Rep. Marcos upon the motion of acting floor leader Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor.
Meanwhile, Quezon 2nd District Rep. David Suarez was chosen Senior Deputy Speaker, taking on the key role of assisting the Speaker in presiding over sessions and guiding legislative priorities. The House also elected the following representatives as Deputy Speakers: Janette Garin (Iloilo, 1st District), Yasser Alonto Balindong (Lanao del Sur, 2nd District), Paolo Ortega V (La Union, 1st District), Jay Khonghun (Zambales, 1st District), Kristine Singson-Meehan (Ilocos Sur, 2nd District), Ronaldo Puno (Antipolo City, 1st District), Faustino Dy III (Isabela, 6th District), Ferjenel Biron (Iloilo, 4th District), and Raymond Democrito Mendoza (TUCP party-list).
The chamber likewise reelected Reginald Velasco as Secretary General and Maj. Gen. Napoleon Taas (ret.) as Sergeant-at-Arms.
