Ilocos Region Police Seize PHP7.3 Billion in Illegal Drugs in First Half of 2025


Manila: The Ilocos Police Regional Office (PRO1) has reported the seizure of illegal drugs valued at PHP7.3 billion during operations conducted between January 1 and June 29, 2025.



According to Philippines News Agency, PRO1 spokesperson Lt. Col. Benigno Sumawang highlighted that a significant portion of the seized drugs consisted of over 1,000 kilograms of shabu. Additionally, the operations resulted in the confiscation of 98,557 grams of marijuana, carrying a street value of PHP11.8 million. The Ilocos Region police executed 675 operations and successfully arrested 737 suspects involved in illegal drug activities during this period.



Sumawang further mentioned that police officers managed to uproot approximately 15,000 marijuana plants as part of their comprehensive strategy against drug proliferation. At a press conference, PRO1 acting Director Brig. Gen. Dindo Reyes emphasized the dual focus on dismantling supply chains and targeting those protecting the drug trade. He stressed that the efforts would be intelligence-driven, coordinated, and relentlessly enforced.



Reyes, who took on the role of PRO1 acting director on June 21, also pointed out the importance of grassroots engagement and collaboration with the Barangay Anti Drug Abuse Council to strengthen their fight against illegal drugs.
