Iloilo city: The local government here underscored the need for an urgent solution to the power issue amid the red and yellow alerts in the Visayas grid. Mayor Raisa Tre±as will meet with the power distributor and concerned electric power authorities on Aug. 17 to understand the power situation and look for concrete solutions. She will also gather various sectors, including business, households, hospitals and health facilities, public markets, and other essential services to listen to how the concern has affected their daily operations and delivery of services.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Tre±as stated, "We are ready to work with everyone concerned, but we need solutions and urgency." She emphasized that the power issue should not be a normal part of the daily lives of Ilonggos and businesses. In the meantime, she urged the public to conserve energy, especially in times when the demand is high. The public support, she said, is necessary to help manage the pressure in the power system.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued the red alert status between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and a yellow alert between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the Visayas grid on Thursday. NGCP reported that the available supply is at 2,283 megawatts while the peak demand is at 2,360 megawatts. It cited the unavailability of three large coal plants in Visayas, limited power import from Mindanao, and the high forecast system demand as reasons.

Meanwhile, More Electric and Power Corp. announced a power interruption affecting the whole of La Paz substation as of 10:55 a.m. due to the lack of an incoming supply from NGCP. An emergency power interruption due to the manual load dropping by NGCP was experienced starting at 1:52 p.m. and rotated in various feeders, lasting approximately three hours.
