Iloilo City Council to Digitize Records and Enhance Public Access

Iloilo city: The Sangguniang Panlungsod, or City Council, is making strides to digitize its records, including ordinances and resolutions dating back to the 1940s, for online public access. This initiative aims to improve transparency and efficiency within the council.

According to Philippines News Agency, Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace Baronda emphasized the benefits of the Records Management System in a recent interview. She explained that the system is not merely a digital archive but a tool designed to facilitate council sessions, streamline committee reports, and monitor legislative progress. The vice mayor expressed optimism that the records would be available to the public within the next few months as the final touches are being applied to the system.

Currently, access to the digitized records is restricted to council members involved in the system. The initiative is a collaborative effort with the Central Philippine University and various consultants, reflecting a commitment to enhancing transparency. Vice Mayor Baronda conveyed her hope that the city council members would fully support this initiative, recognizing its potential to promote openness and accountability in local governance.
