Iloilo city: The local government has distributed financial aid to 24 Ilonggo migrant workers recently repatriated from the Middle East.
According to Philippines News Agency, this immediate support is part of the city's effort to provide relief to these overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as they reunite with their families and readjust to life back home. Mayor Raisa Tre±as emphasized that each recipient was given PHP10,000 during the distribution event held at the City Mayor's Office.
In addition to the financial aid, Mayor Tre±as highlighted plans to assist the repatriated workers in finding employment. The local government will offer upskilling and free training programs through the Public Employment Service Office. Tre±as encouraged the workers to submit their r©sum©s to increase their employment prospects. The city government has over 20 available livelihood training programs for those interested.
Further support is also available for those with children in college, as Tre±as advised them to apply for the city government's scholarship program. One of the beneficiaries, Ann Buyco, recounted her harrowing experience while working in Abu Dhabi, including maltreatment and a medical condition that led to imprisonment. Buyco expressed hope for additional livelihood support, especially since her children are still in school.
